How to Choose the Right Hair Detox Shampoo
When selecting a hair detox shampoo, consider the following factors:
- Hair type: Choose a product that’s suitable for your hair type, whether it’s oily, dry or normal.
- Scalp sensitivity: If you have a sensitive scalp, opt for gentler formulas like Aloe Rid.
- Frequency of use: Some detox shampoos are designed for regular use, while others should only be used occasionally.
- Desired results: Consider what you’re trying to achieve – whether it’s removing product build-up, cleansing from environmental pollutants or giving your hair a fresh start.
Tips for Using Hair Detox Shampoos
To get the most out of your hair detox shampoo:
- Wet your hair thoroughly before applying the shampoo.
- Massage the shampoo into your scalp for at least 3-5 minutes to ensure it penetrates the hair follicles.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- Follow up with a good conditioner to restore moisture to your hair.
- Don’t use hair detox shampoos too frequently as they can strip your hair of natural oils if overused.
The Bottom Line on Hair Detox Shampoos
Hair detox shampoos can be an excellent addition to your hair care routine, especially if you’re looking to give your locks a fresh start. Whether you’re dealing with product build-up or environmental pollutants or you just want to deep cleanse your scalp to renew your hair’s natural beauty, there’s likely a hair detox shampoo available at your local Walmart store that can meet your needs.
Remember, while these products can be effective, they should be used as part of a balanced hair care routine. Always follow the instructions on the product label, and if you have any concerns about using hair detox shampoos, consult with a hair care professional.
By incorporating a hair detox shampoo into your routine, you can help keep your hair and scalp clean, healthy and refreshed. So why not give your locks the detox they deserve?

This post probably wasn’t aimed at men but personally I found it so useful. I swim alot so need to use a strong shampoo to make sure all the chlorine gets properly washed out. I’ve been using an expensive one I bought online whose name escapes me but it’s not giving good results and leaves my scalp very dry so I will be looking through this list to try to find a replacement. Thanks for the helpful info and all the detail!
As a very experienced hairdresser I can tell you that clarifying shampoo’s are actually often not necessary. The problem is people don’t wash their hair properly and they don’t rinse out their shampoo and conditioner thoroughly and this is what causes the buildup. I know that won’t be the case for everyone but it is in the vast majority of cases. We see this all the time in my salon. Here are some tip’s:
1. You really need to scrub (with your fingertips, not your nail’s) the scalp when washing, whether that is with shampoo or with conditioner if cowashing. Use a scalp scrubbing brush – easy to buy on Amazon etc – if you find it hard to use your finger’s.
2. Thoroughly rinse that out. This will take a few minute’s and your hair and scalp should be squeaky clean after. You can use the scalp scrubbing brush for this too.
3. Repeat first two steps if needed.
4. Add conditioner to ends of hair, work up the lengths towards the roots but do not apply on the scalp at all. Finger comb through to help gather up any loose hairs.
5. After a few minutes rinse out the conditioner. Again this will take a few minute’s.
6. Add leave-in if wanted, again stay away from the scalp, then wrap hair in a towel and dry/style as normal.
Hope this helps someone!
I have been wondering how to detox my hair as it has got a lot of build up since December so this post is very timely and super useful! I will have a look online at the Walmart website, thanks so much! I did some research on how to remove buildup in hair naturally but the methods I tried didn’t work so it’s definitely time to find the right detox shampoo for me.
Honestly these types of products are too much for my hair and they strip it. Much too harsh. Instead I use apple coder vinegar to clarify, it’s amazing. It’s super cleansing but also leaves your hair shiny and almost like it’s had a vitamin boost or something. Also I avoid silicones in my hair products as they can cause so much buildup so I am sure this helps too.
I go swimming twice a day and have always used Head and Shoulders but lately I found it wasn’t working as well as it used to. They probably changed the formula like brands have the habit of doing without any notice! So frustrating. Anyway this post has come at the perfect time for me and I’ll definitely be trying out some of your recommendations. Thanks!
I follow the Curly Girl Method so these products would be too harsh for my hair. Instead I clarify with apple cider vinegar and sometimes use lemon juice if I need more of a detox. These brands are fine but there are excellent natural remedies around too.
