Are you dreaming of lush, fluttery eyelashes that make your eyes pop? You’re not alone! The quest for longer, fuller lashes has led many to explore various beauty treatments and today we’re diving into two popular contenders: Careprost and Latisse. These eyelash growth serums have been making waves in the beauty world, but what’s the real story behind them? Let’s unravel the mystery and help you decide which might be the best choice for your lash goals.
The Lowdown on Lash-Boosting Serums
Who Are Careprost and Latisse?
Both Careprost and Latisse are eyelash growth serums that contain the active ingredient bimatoprost. This compound was originally used in glaucoma treatments, but researchers noticed an unexpected side effect: patients’ eyelashes were becoming longer, darker and fuller. Talk about a happy accident!
Latisse is manufactured by Allergan and it was the first FDA-approved eyelash growth serum to hit the market. Careprost, on the other hand, is produced by Sun Pharma, an Indian pharmaceutical company, and is often considered a generic version of Latisse.
The Science Behind the Serums
When it comes to the eyelash growth serum comparison, both products work similarly. They extend the growth phase of your eyelash hair cycle, allowing lashes to grow longer before naturally falling out. Additionally, these serums increase the number of hairs produced during each growth cycle, resulting in fuller-looking lashes.
Careprost vs Latisse: The Showdown
Now, let’s get to the heart of our eyelash growth serum comparison. How do these two products stack up against each other?
Effectiveness
In terms of results, both Careprost and Latisse are remarkably similar. Users typically start seeing improvements within 4-8 weeks, with full results appearing after about 16 weeks of consistent use. Both serums promise longer, darker and fuller lashes, and many users report dramatic improvements in their lash game.
Application Process
The application process for both eyelash growth serums is nearly identical. You’ll need to apply the product along the upper lash line using the provided applicator brush. It’s crucial to remove contact lenses and eye makeup before application and to avoid getting the product in your eyes.
Price Point
Here’s where we see a significant difference in our eyelash growth serum comparison. Latisse tends to be pricier, often costing around £99 for a month’s supply. Careprost, being a generic version, is typically more budget-friendly with prices hovering around £42 for a similar amount.
Availability
Another key difference in our eyelash growth serum comparison is availability. Latisse usually requires a prescription in many countries, including the UK. Careprost, however, is often available over the counter or through online pharmacies, making it more accessible for many consumers.

Making the Choice: Which Eyelash Growth Serum is Right for You?
When conducting an eyelash growth serum comparison, it’s essential to consider your personal needs and circumstances. Here are some factors to weigh up:
- Budget: If cost is a significant concern, Careprost might be the more attractive option.
- Accessibility: Consider how easily you can obtain each product in your location.
- Brand Preference: Some people feel more comfortable using a brand-name product like Latisse, while others are happy with a generic alternative.
- Consultation: It’s always wise to chat with a healthcare professional or dermatologist before starting any new beauty treatment.
The Bigger Picture: Lash Care Beyond Serums
While our eyelash growth serum comparison focuses on Careprost and Latisse, it’s worth noting that these products are just one part of a comprehensive lash care routine. Here are some additional tips to keep your lashes in top shape:
- Be gentle: When removing eye makeup, avoid rubbing or tugging at your lashes. Use a gentle, oil-based remover and soft cotton pads.
- Nourish naturally: Incorporate lash-friendly nutrients into your diet, such as biotin, vitamins E and B and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Curl with care: If you use an eyelash curler, ensure it’s clean and in good condition. Curling before applying mascara can help prevent breakage.
- Choose quality mascaras: Opt for nourishing, non-clumping formulas that won’t dry out your lashes.
- Give your lashes a break: Try to have mascara-free days to let your lashes breathe and recover.
The Bottom Line: Embracing Your Lash Journey
As we wrap up our eyelash growth serum comparison, remember that everyone’s lash journey is unique. Whether you choose Careprost, Latisse or decide to focus on natural lash care, the key is consistency and patience.
Both Careprost and Latisse have proven effective in enhancing eyelash growth, with subtle differences in price and accessibility. Your choice may come down to personal preference, budget and availability in your area.
Before embarking on any new beauty regimen, especially when it comes to your eyes, it’s always wise to consult with a healthcare professional. They can provide personalised advice based on your individual needs and any potential contraindications.
Remember, whilst longer, fuller lashes can certainly boost your confidence, true beauty comes from within. Whether you’re batting natural lashes or enjoying the effects of an eyelash growth serum, wear your look with pride and let your unique style shine through.

Such an interesting blog post. I have been using Latisse for many years with great results. However during the pandemic it has become hard to obtain so I switched to Careprost and to my surprise I’ve found it just as good as Latisse! My bank balance is very happy about this!! Like your article says there are subtle differences between the two brands but I’ll be sticking with Careprost going forward.
This is a very useful comparison post, thank you for posting! I have always wondered if its worth paying the extra for expensive brands so this has given me a lot of food for thought.
I have followed your blog for a while now and always find it so helpful 🙂
Funny to think that just a few years ago we did pretty much little else than use mascara on our eyelashes. Now it’s commonplace to see false eyelashes for women, eyelash implants for women and more! I do think eyelash treatments like those you have mentioned here are useful but the obsession with beauty and enhancing yourself cosmetically has got out of control in my opinion. We should embrace our natural beauty and smash the patriarchy!
I have been trying everything to make my eyelashes grow thicker and longer. I had some success with Vaseline but I think maybe it was just coating the lashes rather than having any proper benefit. Well I tried Latisse and let me tell you my lashes have never been better. I even get people complimenting me on them and they assume they are false lashes but nope, they’re mine all mine 🙂 Thank you for this post, it inspired me to try Latisse!
I never thought these types of product actually work and having tried both of these brands I still don’t think they do. A serum or anything topical won’t make eyelashes or hair or anything else grow differently. It may help keep the eyelashes in better condition and give them a coating so they appear thicker but that’s it. To improve how things grow you need to be absorbing the right nutrients from the inside, so your diet will make all the difference, plus supplements if needed.
